自元代北京城建成以来逐渐形成，街长496米，因其走向得名“斜街”。民国时期，杨梅竹斜街曾是有名的书局一条街，世界书局等七家响当当的书局都在此开设。这里也是一条文化书香之街，街里曾遍会馆、名人居所、票号等，梁诗正、鲁迅、沈从文等名人在此云集，许多建筑都留下了他们的足迹。

During the period of the Republic of China, Yangmeizhuxie Street was once a famous street for bookstores, and seven well-known bookstores, including World Bookstore, used to have opened here. It is also a street of culture and literature. The street used to be full of guild halls, celebrity residences, and ticket offices, etc. Liang Shizheng, Lu Xun, Shen Congwen and other celebrities gathered here, and many buildings also left their footprints here.
